Czech Republic Profile
GOALKEEPERS
PETR CECH (Chelsea, 20/05/82)
The Chelsea stopper is the Czechs' number one and, barring injury,
will be a key player for the team at Euro 2008. He was named as goalkeeper of the tournament four years ago.
JAROMIR
BLAZEK (Nurnberg, 29/12/72)
The Nurnberg goalkeeper is unlikely to oust Cech during the tournament but having
won six domestic league titles will provide good experience.
MAREK CECH (Luch-Energia Vladivostok,
08/04/76)
Has only one cap to his name is unlikely to be anything other than a back-up at the tournament.
|
Germany Profile
GOALKEEPERSJENS LEHMANN (Arsenal, 10/11/69)
The veteran goalkeeper has scarcely featured
at all for Arsenal this season after losing his place to Manuel Almunia, but looks set to remain first choice in the national
team after keeping a clean sheet in their last two friendlies against Euro 2008 co-hosts Austria and Switzerland.
TIMO
HILDEBRAND (Valencia, 05/04/79)
The former Stuttgart stopper is competing with Lehmann for the number one
spot after long being third choice behind the Arsenal man and Oliver Kahn. But he has endured a difficult first season in
La Liga as Valencia have struggled.
ROBERT ENKE (Hannover, 24/08/77)
The much-travelled Enke
has finally found his feet at Hannover after stints in Portugal with Benfica, Spain with Barcelona and Turkey with Fenerbahce.
His only appearance for Germany came in their friendly defeat to Denmark in March last year.
|
France Profile
GOALKEEPERSGREGORY COUPET (Lyon, 31/12/72) - Coupet has made the number one jersey his own following
the retirement of Fabien Barthez. Experienced and composed, he is strong on crosses and a good communicator with his back
four.
MICKAEL LANDREAU (Paris St Germain, 14/05/79) - Established himself as understudy to Coupet
but has had a mixed campaign with struggling Paris St Germain. Great shot-stopper but has made a number of high-profile mistakes
at club level this season.
SEBASTIEN FREY (Fiorentina, 18/03/80) - Will only be involved if there
is an injury to Coupet or Landreau. Made a glaring error in his one and only cap so far for France - against Ukraine last
year - but is a strong all-round keeper.
|
Portugal Profile
GOALKEEPERSRICARDO (Real Betis, 11/02/76)
Eccentric keeper who is likely to be first choice
in Austria and Switzerland. Took the winning penalty in the shoot-out as Portugal beat England in the quarter-finals at Euro
2004.
QUIM (Benfica, 13/11/75)
First-choice for Benfica, Quim has established himself as a
regular member of the Portugal squad. Missed out on a place at the 2002 World Cup after failing a drugs test.
DANIEL
FERNANDES (PAOK Salonika, 25/09/83)
Canada-born goalkeeper who plays in Greece for PAOK. Started out at Vancouver
before securing a move to Porto. Two spells at Celta Vigo followed before he moved to PAOK.
|
Switzerland Profile
GOALKEEPERSDIEGO BENAGLIO (Wolfsburg, 08/09/83)
The young goalkeeper has gone from strength
to strength since being included as third-choice in Kobi Kuhn's 2006 World Cup squad. Some great performances saw him snapped
up by Bundesliga giants Wolfsburg in January and become Switzerland's number one shot-stopper.
FABIO COLTORTI
(Racing Santander, 03/12/80)
Battling it out with Benaglio to be Pascal Zuberbuhler's long-term replacement when the
veteran 'keeper finally hangs up his gloves. The extremely talented youngster, known for his rapid reflexes and strength in
the air, is definitely one to watch out for.
PASCAL ZUBERBUHLER (Neuchatel Xamax, 08/01/71)
Despite
criticism of his handling of crosses has been an ever-present in the squad since making his debut 14 years ago. Had a great
World Cup in 2006 as Switzerland made it to the last 16 before being eliminated on penalties, returning home without conceding
a single goal in 390 minutes of football.
|
Turkey Profile
GOALKEEPERSRUSTU RECBER (Besiktas, 10/05/73)
The extrovert veteran stopper is Turkey's most-capped
played with 115 caps. Despite starting qualifying as number one, injury meant he lost his place to Volkan.
VOLKAN
DEMIREL (Fenerbahce, 27/10/81)
Took his chance in the side following injury to Rustu and is expected to be
coach Fatih Terim's first choice. Has impressed for Fenerbahce in their run to the quarter-finals in this season's Champions
League - most notably making three stops in the last 16 shoot-out win over Sevilla.
HAKAN ARIKAN (Besiktas,
17/08/82)
Set to be Turkey's third-choice keeper in Austria and Switzerland. Has been criticised for making high-profile
mistakes for Besiktas and conceded eight goals in their record 8-0 Champions League defeat to Liverpool at Anfield this season

Greece Profile
GOALKEEPERS
ANTONIOS NIKOPOLIDIS (Olympiacos, 14/01/71)
The grey-haired shot-stopper was voted on to the Euro
2004 all-star team after he kept a hat-trick of clean sheets in the knockout stage to lead the Greeks to the title. Following
the 4-1 home defeat to Turkey in the Euro 2008 qualifiers, he lost his first-team place and the captaincy to Angelos Basinas,
although he has since recovered his berth in goal. He is the fourth most capped Greece player of all time.
KONSTANTINOS
CHALKIAS (Aris Salonika, 30/05/74)
Standing at 6ft 6in, the 33-year-old former Portsmouth goalkeeper has had
to spend most of his international career on the substitutes' bench behind Nikopolidis. He was unused during Euro 2004, although
his hopes of an appearance may be better in Austria and Switzerland after making five starts during the qualifiers.
ALEXANDROS
TZORVAS (OFI Crete, 12/08/82)
Has impressed in his first season with the Greek islanders following his transfer
from Panathinaikos and was rewarded with his first call-up to the national team for the 2-1 friendly win against Portugal
in March.
|
Croatia Profile
GOALKEEPERS
STIPE PLETIKOSA (Spartak Moscow, 08/01/79)
Croatia's most capped goalkeeper and undisputed number
one, Pletikosa kept eight clean sheets in his country's 12 qualifying games. Despite playing at two World Cups, this will
be his first European Championship finals after he missed Euro 2004 through injury.
VEDRAN RUNJE (Lens,
10/02/76)
Runje has a fight on his hands for a place in the Croatia squad, being one of three inexperienced understudies
to Pletikosa with a handful of caps between them. He appeared the natural replacement until missing March's friendly against
Scotland.
MARIO GALINOVIC (Panathinaikos, 15/11/76)
Galinovic made his Croatia debut back in
1999 but had to wait more than eight years for his second cap. Despite being 31, the Panathinaikos man is even more inexperienced
at international level than Runje.
|
Holland Profile
GOALKEEPERSEDWIN VAN DER SAR (Manchester United, 29/10/70)
Veteran Manchester United stopper
is Holland's most capped player and their captain. Is set to retire from international football after Euro 2008, but continues
to perform admirably for both club and country - despite fast approaching his 38th birthday.
MAARTEN STEKELENBURG
(Ajax, 22/09/82)
The Ajax keeper made four appearances during the qualifiers and is the natural successor to Van der
Sar.
HENK TIMMER (Feyenoord, 03/12/71)
Despite plenty of experience, the veteran former AZ
Alkmaar keeper did not feature for the national team until 2005, and is unlikely to usurp his younger rival as Van der Sar's
long-term replacement.
|
Romania Profile
GOALKEEPERSBOGDAN LOBONT (Dinamo Bucharest, 18/01/78)
Lobont rose to prominence with Rapid
Bucharest and earned a move to Dutch giants Ajax in 2000. He was briefly first choice before moving to Fiorentina and then
back to Romania with Dinamo Bucharest last year. He has made 62 appearances for the national team and is currently number
one.
DANUT COMAN (Rapid Bucharest, 28/03/79)
Coman has played all his club football in Romania
and is first choice at Rapid Bucharest having previously played for Arges Pitesti and AS Rocar Bucharest. He has nine caps
to his name.
MARIUS POPA (FCU Politehnica Timisoara, 31/07/78)
Politehnica Timisoara is Popa's
third club in his home country. He has been named in the national team squad 11 times and made his debut in the friendly victory
over Russia in March.
|
Sweden Profile
GOALKEEPERSANDREAS ISAKSSON (Manchester City, 03/10/81)
Still coach Lars Lagerback's number
one despite finding first-team opportunities at Manchester City hard to come by. Will hope an impressive display in Austria
and Switzerland can put him in the shop window for a summer move away from Eastlands.
RAMI SHAABAN
(Hammarby, 30/06/75)
After four appearances during qualifying, including a clean sheet in the vital 2-0 victory over
Spain, the veteran stopper will push Isaksson all the way for a starting berth.
JOHAN WILAND (Elfsborg,
24/01/81)
Former under-21 international Wiland is enjoying his sixth season with Elfsborg. He had a brief loan spell
with Wolves in 2004. Unlikely to be anything other than a back-up at Euro 2008.

Austria Profile
GOALKEEPERS
JURGEN MACHO (AEK Athens, 24/08/77)
The 6ft 4in stopper will be familiar to fans of Sunderland,
having joined the Black Cats in 2000 before joining Chelsea in 2003. Swallowed his tongue in a collision with England striker
Peter Crouch in a friendly last year.
ALEX MANNINGER (Siena, 04/06/77)
Former Arsenal man is
Austria coach Josef Hickersberger's recognised first-choice goalkeeper. He spent four years as David Seaman's understudy at
Arsenal and now is kept busy against the Serie A big guns while playing for Siena.
HELGE PAYER (Rapid
Vienna, 09/08/79)
Payer faces a fight with Christian Gratzei for the number three spot. The Rapid Vienna man has played
in the Champions League for his club, but will surely need injuries to intervene if he is to edge out Manninger and Macho.
|
Italy Profile
GOALKEEPERSGIANLUIGI BUFFON (Juventus, 28/01/78)
Buffon has the art of making stunning saves
look easy and that was the case at the 2006 World Cup, where he only conceded twice in the tournament, one of which was an
own goal. The Juventus number one has incredible skills, great hands that can reach anything and accurate kicking and is rated
the top goalkeeper in the world. He has struggled with back problems this campaign but his contribution has been crucial for
Juve to have the second best defensive line in Italy's top flight.
MARCO AMELIA (Livorno, 02/04/82)
Buffon´s
understudy has always been ready to deliver when called upon. Amelia has shaken off muscular injuries this campaign at Livorno
and will be eager to prove his worth at a major tournament.
MATTEO SERENI (Torino, 11/02/75)
Sereni
has enjoyed a first-team role at Torino this season for the first time in three years, having been a bench-warmer at former
club Lazio. Will only be involved if there is an injury to Buffon or Amelia.
|
Poland Profile
GOALKEEPERSARTUR BORUC (Celtic, 20/02/80)
Commanding goalkeeper who has played a pivotal
role in Celtic's success in Scotland since arriving from Legia Warsaw in 2005.
Although no stranger to controversy
during his time in Scotland, he is a real favourite with the Hoops fans but a good tournament in Austria and Switzerland could
be the springboard for him to move on, with many English Premier League and Italian Serie A clubs reportedly interested.
LUKASZ
FABIANSKI (Arsenal, 18/04/85)
Having started out at Lech Poznan, Fabianski moved to Legia Warsaw in 2005 and
showed enough promise to be snapped up by Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger for an undisclosed fee.
So far he has been
restricted to just five appearances for the Gunners - all in the League Cup - but he is viewed as one for the future and a
long-term successor for Jens Lehmann and Manuel Almunia.
TOMASZ KUSZCZAK (Manchester United, 20/03/82)
Kuszczak
began his career with Slask Wroclaw but moved over the border to Germany and Uerdingen in 1999, before a switch to Hertha
Berlin the following year.
He moved to West Brom in 2004 where he was involved in their great escape from relegation
in 2005 but was unable to help them avoid the drop in his second season but earned a surprise move to Manchester United -
initially on loan - where he has proved a more than able deputy to Edwin van der Sar.
|
Russia Profile
GOALKEEPERSIGOR AKINFEEV (CSKA Moscow, 08/04/86)
Broke into the CSKA starting line-up aged
17 and has been the first choice ever since, winning the UEFA Cup in 2005. Called into the international squad four years
ago but knee injury last May put him out for four months.
VYACHESLAV MALAFEEV (Zenit St Petersburg,
04/03/79)
Made international debut in a Euro 2004 qualification play-off against Wales and played two matches at the
tournament in Portugal.
VLADIMIR GABULOV (Amkar Perm, 19/10/83)
Akinfeev's injury thrust Gabulov
into the limelight in the crucial home qualifier against England and he did not disappoint as Russia came back from 1-0 down
to win 2-1.
|
Spain Profile
GOALKEEPERS
IKER CASILLAS (Real Madrid, 20/05/81)
Undoubtedly the number one for both club and country, Casillas
has long been considered one of the best goalkeepers in the game. A superb shot-stopper and already vastly experienced despite
his age, the Real Madrid ace has arguably not even reached his peak yet.
JOSE REINA (Liverpool, 31/08/82)
Like
Casillas, Reina already has an impressive-looking CV despite still being in his mid-20s. Something of an expert at saving
penalties, the bald-headed Liverpool custodian is the son of legendary former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Miguel Reina Santos.
ANDRES
PALOP (Sevilla, 22/10/73)
At 34, Palop is likely to be the oldest player in the Spain squad at Euro 2008.
Started his career at Valencia but made the breakthrough at their local rivals Villarreal before returning to Los Che and
then moving to Sevilla in 2005. Winner of numerous club trophies down the years, Palop is still waiting for his first Spain
cap.
