Provett backs Randy for fame
By Marc Iles
JIM Provett has backed former Gigg Lane loanee Darren Randolph to become a top star. The Republic of Ireland under-21 international
rejoined Charlton a fortnight ago to hand Provett a route back into the first team after spending months on the sidelines. And
though the young keeper did make some high-profile mistakes during his time at Bury, his improvement after coming to terms
with regular senior football impressed the Shakers man.I think he will go on to have a good career," he said. "I felt as if
I could learn from him in training and I hope he learned something from me too."I thought Darren responded well after a shaky
start. I would never criticise him because we play in the hardest position."That's the life of a goalkeeper, it is sometimes
about how you react to mistakes."Provett is also looking forward to this weekend's derby against Rochdale - one of the major
reasons he joined the club from Hartlepool in the summer."When I talked to Chris Casper in the summer he mentioned that there
was six derbies to play in every season. That is the kind of thing that whets your appetite when you are looking to join a
new club," he said."I think I did well in both games against Rochdale this season and whether I'm looking to get myself a
contract here, or open eyes elsewhere, these are the type of games you want to play in."
SYDNEY, Australia (AP) -- Australian goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer has signed a two-year
contract with Fulham, leaving Premier League rivals Middlesbrough after 11 years and 367 matches for the club. The
35-year-old Schwarzer was due to become a free agent next month.Schwarzer arrived in Sydney from England on Thursday to join
his Australian teammates ahead of Friday's international friendly against Ghana at Sydney Football Stadium."I have signed
with Fulham for two years," said Schwarzer. "I don't really want to speak about this at this moment in time. After the game
on Friday night, we can talk more about my future."I had a few other options, but felt this was the best one for me. I don't
think anyone can say anything negative about my stay at Middlesbrough, I fulfilled every contract I had with them," he added.Schwarzer
had been linked with Bayern Munich in Germany as well as a possible move to Italy. He is expected to play in the Ghana match
as well as four 2010 World Cup qualifying matches in June."Obviously it's a long trip -- but I feel fine," Schwarzer said.
"I trained this morning. I'm almost 100 percent."Meanwhile, Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has expressed delight at securing Schwarzer's
signature. Hodgson said: "After stiff competition from a number of high-profile European clubs, I am exceptionally pleased
that Mark has chosen to come to us. His credentials in both the domestic and international arenas are impeccable, which is
reinforced by the caliber of clubs that wanted to sign him".

The Daily Telegraph has voted Arthur Boruc the best goalkeeper in Celtic’s recent history. What is more,
the Polish player and former Legia Warsaw goalkeeper has been chosen as the best transfer by Celtic manage Gordon Strachan.
Boruc joined Celtic Glasgow for 650,000 pounds in 2005 and immediately won the fan’s trust. ‘King Arthur’
has played 117 matches for “The Bhoys” and won the Scottish championship twice. The likelihood of winning the
championship for a third time this season is low. Last Saturday the Celtic Park team lost to arch-rivals, Glasgow Rangers
1:0 and have a 6-point deficit to Rangers. However, the situation at Celtic has not influenced general opinion about the Polish
goalkeeper. The Daily Telegraph reported that Boruc is Strachan’s best transfer and gave the Pole 9 out of
10. Scott McDonald, who is a Celtic forward got 8 points. Maciej Żurawki, who joined Greek side Larrisa a few months
ago got 6 points and took third place. Shunsuke Nakamura, considered to be Celtic’s biggest star got 5 points. Rzeczpospolita
Frey Not Exceptional – Ex-Milanista
Former Milan defender Stefano Nava has exclusively told Goal.com that he is not completely in support of
the Rossoneri buying Sebastien Frey this summer.
With Nelson Dida set to be released, and doubts still remaining over the ability of Zelko Kalac, Milan have made the signing
of a new number one as a priority this summer. The name most linked with a move to San Siro is Sebastien Frey, but despite
a stunning campaign in Florence, one ex-Milan player is not that in favour of his old club buying the Frenchman."Frey is an
excellent goalkeeper, but he not truly exceptional,” said Nava, who played for Milan from 1990-95, and was a backup
to the legendary back four of Mauro Tassotti, Franco Baresi, Billy Costacurta and Paolo Maldini.“He could be a solution
because there is not much better around, but the fact remains that he is not that exceptional.“I think that there is
interest for the Celtic goalkeeper [Artur] Boruc. He is very good, has international experience and therefore could be an
idea. "If the Rossoneri’s market operations do not yield an important foreign goalkeeper, I believe that Christian
Abbiati [on-loan at Atletico Madrid] is the best solution, even if he is certainly not a solution that convinces me.
“For certain though, the Dida experience is over.”
